How We Worship

We enjoy a classic Christian liturgy that emphasizes Word and Sacrament. That is why we value preaching that communicates the message of the Gospel in a contemporary idiom and why we celebrate Communion every Sunday. Scripture readings follow the common lectionary (readings from Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament) used by many Christian denominations.

We also follow the church year with special celebrations and services during the seasons of Advent, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, All Saints’ Day and Saint Andrew’s Day.

Woodland Park's service includes elements of worship as outlined in the Presbyterian Book of Order and Book of Confessions: greeting, prayer, confession of sins, reading the scripture and hearing the word, celebration of the sacraments, and a benediction that sends us into the world to serve others.

childrenSunday worship begins at 10:30 am and includes communion. Childcare is available from 10:00 am to noon. We make a conscious attempt to welcome and incorporate children’s participation in our service.

Music is an important part of our worship together, experienced in congregational singing of traditional and contemporary hymns and liturgical responses; choral anthems by the choir and a quartet; special music on the Casavant pipe organ, the piano, and other instruments.
