SUNDAY WORSHIP10:30 a.m.ADULT EDUCATIONOn summer hiatusCHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOLOn summer hiatus
Pastor Janet Sonnanburg, Parish Associate Dick Erickson and members of the congregation lead adults in exploring together throughout the year (except in summer) a variety of topics, devoting four to eight weeks to each topic. Recent classes include a study of the Book of Acts, Lenten meditations by Rowan Williams, and expressions of faith in contemporary films. Class begins at 9:15 Sunday morning when participants gather on sofas with coffee in hand to learn and to share their insights with each other. For some congregants, the adult education classes are the reason to come to worship regularly on Sunday mornings.
Youth Group
Led by Meghan Miller, a director with experience in leading youth groups as well as a degree in education, the youth of WPPC (The Yoots!) are an active and lively group who welcome new participants with open arms. In addition to special activities that include a yearly island retreat and social justice activities, the youth also meet on Sundays from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. for education and worship. They participate actively in other multi-generational church activities, from the all-church retreat to the annual dessert auction.
Sunday School
Kids from kindergarten to 6th grade participate in Sunday school from 9:15 a.m. to about 10:15. They are encouraged to attend the worship service and to receive communion. We use the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum.
Small Groups
The Men's Group meets monthly on the first Saturday of the month at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast. The Movie Group meets on the 3rd Friday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Upper Room to watch a movie together - usually rated G (Movie Group takes a break for July and August). The Book Club, the "WPPC Readers", meets periodically - please see the weekly bulletin for updates.
Held at Warm Beach Camp in July, this intergenerational event provides something for everyone who attends - worship, study, singing, walking, swimming, skits, horses, mini golf, high ropes, food, quiet time, games, fun and fellowship. Some folks come up for the whole weekend and some just for the Saturday. All are encouraged to attend - scholarships are available with funds raised by the Fellowship Committee throughout the year.
