This year, we enter the summer season with a bang! Sunday, June 28, we celebrate both Music Appreciation Sunday in worship AND Seattle Pride! It will be an unusual day, so read carefully! Here’s how it will go:
Adult Ed — Our “Sounds of Music” series will effectively end this Sunday morning, and we will not meet promptly at 9am on 6/28. However…
9:30am — Our illustrious choir offers a year’s retrospective concert of our favorite offertories from the past year! Coffee and treats will be available as always, with sanctuary doors open for all to come and go! Sit and listen or wander and fellowship as best suits you!
10:30am — We will have a complete but expedient worship service with an aim toward finishing up by 11:30. Please note: Prayers of the People will function differently than usual (not passing the mic this week), so share your stories and prayers amongst yourselves as we fellowship; we will also provide a way to share specific prayer requests for inclusion in the Monday email bulletin.
PRIDE PARADE!! As soon as worship is done, all who are able and willing can join us and our Presbyterian siblings marching in the parade! Pastor Kelly Spencer of Newport Pres is our point person for our placement in the parade. As we await coming details, consider how you might be involved!
The organization of a parade of this magnitude is a crazy undertaking, so we offer grace and openness as plans and assignments come later rather than earlier.
J Kyle will be taking the bus downtown from the church. Let’s bring a (patient) group and be proudly and queerly Christian all the way there!
Carpool — Parking downtown on this day is rough, of course, but doable. The parade staging area is on 4th Ave, mostly within the “Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Pressure” blocks. This is an opportunity to show your support even if you can’t march! If you are someone who wants to be involved but the whole parade is too much for you, please consider driving a load of folks to/near the staging area before heading home for the afternoon! Buses will be crowded and slow (an opportunity of its own for those who are willing!), so as many seats as we can muster to shuttle our marchers down would be most appreciated!! Please contact April with the number of passengers you can hold if you are willing to help! (Email april.s.benson@gmail.com or Text (206) 724-3529)
The parade ends on 2nd and Denny at Seattle Center, where festivities continue and ample buses/monorail are around! (Please be responsible for your own way home!)
Join us for this exuberant and life-affirming experience as we uphold our queer community and show out the love of Jesus with and for our siblings!!
