Bribery & Betrayal

Artist: Gary Skinner

“They put him to death by hanging him on a tree” (Acts 10:39) is Peter’s way of talking about the crucifixion of Jesus – no mention of a cross, just a tree. Bribery & betrayal, 30 pieces of silver for the ‘kiss of death’, is a very old quid-pro-quo that motivated Judas and is still with us today. A line from a sermon about Judas keeps coming back to me. “On Easter it’s still true – to be the person God created you to be, the freedom you must have – to pray or not to pray, to follow or be led astray – and nothing in God’s great love will ever violate the choice you make.”
