I'd Want it to be You
As we stride ever onward, now into a summer that promises to be one like we have never experienced before, we continue to take a moment each day with music. Throughout these next few months, look for some more offbeat choices, many more of your own community selections and comments, and as ever, a little injection of faith, hope, and love into your day.
Got a song you just love? Email firstname.lastname@example.org to tell Jeff about it!
This morning I found an unexpected pocket of delight! Seems only fitting that I share with you today. Now, most of you will not be shocked in the least to hear me say that I'm a fan of Barbra Streisand. I mean, come on! I had no idea that she was releasing a new album, which happened just a few days ago. And to add an extra layer of excitement for me, one of the first things I saw when I downloaded the album was a duet with none other than Willie Nelson!
Two legends of pretty different worlds, musically speaking, came together for a song that they turned very much into their own, extremely self-referencial to their long and familiar careers, and the result is a sweet little trifle of delight. I have no idea if the two of them even have a real friendship or if it was more or less manufactured for this record, but I frankly don't care if it's true or not! It's a nice ode to friendship, andI hope you just enjoy a little bit of cute fun, and a lovely, creative video to boot!
Time has a way of changing everything That goes for almost anything but us Always have and I always will remain Words from a heart that you can trust While others come and go You can always know I'm here for you Whenever you might need me Sometimes, if you're lucky You find that certain someone You can always count on to be true If I had the choice of only one friend in this world You know that I'd want it to be you You're still kinda crazy after all these years You'll always be that funny girl to me Season to season, we'll always have a reason To be the best of friends that we can be Someone you can turn to Every minute of the day Warm memories to hold on to That will never fade away Sometimes, if you're lucky You find that certain someone You can always count on to be true If I had the choice of only one friend in this world You know that I'd want it to be you You're like a sweet familiar song A good book when I'm alone A cup of coffee when I'm cold And country road that leads me home Oh, you know that sometimes, if you're lucky You find that certain someone You can always count on to be true If I had the choice of only one friend in this world You know that I'd want it to be you When I get on the road again You'll be always on my mind We'll stay the way we were forever true There's no one in this world that's been A better friend to me than you
God, my Friend, Thank you for special relationships, and for pockets of delight.
We also lift up the following prayers shared during last Sunday's worship service:
For all those affected by the fires in CA and OR, as well as the people downwind with all the smoke.
Even in our separation, God, help us to feel the deep delight of your love for all. Amen.
