No Such Thing

Here we are, moving into the tail end of the summer season. As we look forward to the beginning of a new school year and a change in the light and the weather, let's let music accompany our transition.

Today I decided to go with a re-discovery that's feeling really nice to listen to. John Mayer is a gifted songwriter and guitarist. His first album came out in 2001, and this is the first single that came from it. It's unabashedly adolescent, which is really quite a fun change from where I spend most of my brain time; I'd imagine the same is true for you. In addition to some really creative songwriting on the guitar, I hope that you enjoy a freedom-laced ode to teen-hood and growing up.

"Welcome to the real world", she said to me Condescendingly Take a seat Take your life Plot it out in black and white Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings And the drama queens I'd like to think the best of me Is still hiding Up my sleeve They love to tell you Stay inside the lines But something's better On the other side I want to run through the halls of my high school I want to scream at the Top of my lungs I just found out there's no such thing as the real world It's just a lie you've got to rise above So the good boys and girls take the so called right track Faded white hats Grabbing credits and Maybe transfers They read all the books but they can't find the answers And all of our parents They're getting older I wonder if they've wished for anything better While in their memories Tiny tragedies I am invincible... As long as I'm alive I just can't wait til my ten year reunion I'm gonna bust down the double doors And when I stand on these tables before you You will know what all this time was for

Pray...

God of All Music,

Thank you for creativity and nostalgia.

Even in our separation, God, help us to feel the deep delight of your love for all. Amen.
