As we stride ever onward, now into a summer that promises to be one like we have never experienced before, we continue to take a moment each day with music. Throughout these next few months, look for some more offbeat choices, many more of your own community selections and comments, and as ever, a little injection of faith, hope, and love into your day.

Today, a song just because it’s beautiful. This was written by Stephen Sondheim in 1966 for a musical television special called Evening Primrose. It’s a quirky, dark romance between a man who locks himself in a department store overnight and falls in love with a mannequin who magically comes to life. It’s weird - don’t think too hard. But it’s full of gorgeous, lush melodies, including this gem. Eleri Ward is a young musician and actor in New York who just in the past month or so released a solo album of Sondheim covers, just her and her guitar with some vocal overdubbing. If you like the vibe of this song today, the whole album is consistent and lovely, and provides some lusciously simple renditions of some of Sondheim’s greatest hits. I am just really impressed Ms Ward’s arrangement here, and her beautiful voice and guitar work. A moment to just relax into pretty music today. Let me see the world with clouds Take me to the world Out where I can push through crowds Take me to the world A world that smiles with streets instead of aisles Where I can walk for miles with you Take me to the world that’s real Show me how it’s done Yeah me how to laugh, to feel Move me to the Sun Just hold my hand whenever we arrive Take me to a world where I can be alive Do you want the world? Well then, you shall have the world Ask me for the world again You shall have the world A world of skies that’s bursting with surprise To open up your eyes for joy We shall see the world come true We shall have the world I won’t be afraid with you We shall have the world You’ll hold my hand and know you’re not alone You shall have the world to keep Such a lovely world, you’ll weep We shall have the world forever for our own
