The Press

"Democracy Dies in Darkness". Press freedom and viability is under threat both in the U.S. and around the world. Journalists are increasingly attacked by authoritarians. The last U.S. Presidential press briefing was March 11, 2019. President Trump has denied access to news reporters who do not give him favorable coverage. Over 1,800 local newspapers have closed in the past 15 years, resulting in "news deserts". My quilt square poses the old riddle "what's black and white and red/read all over?" but the answer to the riddle is changing.

WPPC is located on the unceded ancestral lands of the Duwamish people.

We acknowledge that they are still here, continuing to honor and bring light to their heritage,

and we benefit every day from the theft of their land.
